Deaf Hangout

Initiated by Wang Li-Sa, Singapore's First Professional Sign Language Interpreter

  • Hangout where the deaf community gather

What we experienced:

  • Engaged with the deaf community

​

What we learnt:

  • Understand the hearing impaired (deaf) better

    • Possible challenges that will arise when working with them

  • Communicating through texts can be time consuming

    • Having an interpreter might be better

RunningHour

The inclusive running club was formed on 18th April 2009 by a group of fitness enthusiasts. Every Saturday morning, they act as running guides to special needs members who are intellectually challenged.

 

The members are mainly students and ex-students of Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN). On 9th June 2012, a group of visually challenged runners joined Runninghour.

 

Runninghour became a Co-operative on 16th May 2014.

What we experienced:

  • Get to bond and interact with more visually impaired

  • Got to film a day in their life

What we learnt:​

  • Experiencing how is it like to run with a Visually Impaired persons

GoalBall 

Goalball is among the most exciting team sports on the Paralympic programme. 

  • Played by athletes with visual impairments, the players wear eyeshades so those with varying degrees of visual impairment.

  • The game is played by two teams of six members of which three players from each team are on a court.

  • The aim is to score by rolling the hard rubber ball (that has holes and bell so it can be heard when it moves) at a speed into the opposition’s goal, while the other team attempts to block the ball with their bodies.

What we experienced:

  • Experiencing how is it like to play a sport without our eyesight which allowed us to be able to empathise our beneficiaries better

  • Getting exposed to Goalball which is unknown to some of our group members beforehand

  • Understand Goalball as a sports

  • Exposed us to a different view of sports

  • Firsthand experience of how the National Goalball Team trains themselves

What we learnt:

  • People with visual impairments can play sports like any others

  • Resilience in the visually impaired persons as they had to train harder than a sighted person

Scent By Six

After spending four years at world-renowned fragrance house, Givaudan, Jason developed a passion and love for scents.

​

In 2015, as a gesture of love for his then bride-to-be, who has a penchant for fragrances; Jason created two unique scents as a wedding gift. These scents were presented as wedding favours to his guests.

​

Encouraged by raving reviews, Jason embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, which has led to the launch of the first three scents of the six-variant collection, aptly named SIX. They are 123 Tribeca, 1724 Puka and 27F Biei.

What we experienced:​

  • Experience what is it like to make a perfume of our choice

​

What we learnt:

  • Learnt the process of Perfume-Making

    • Different notes and recommended percentages

  • Understanding the materials needed to conduct a perfume-making workshop
